The Analysis and Revitalization of San Francisco’s Market Street: Stations of Culture | 2026

As my Barrett, The Honors College thesis and a project deeply personal to me as it focuses on my hometown, this work explores the evolving needs of San Francisco through historical analysis, site context, case studies, and an original design proposal developed within the framework of the Urban Land Institute’s Market Street Reimagined initiative. As the city undergoes a profound transition, particularly in its downtown core, which has been impacted by the effects of COVID-19 and shifting urban patterns, this project proposes “Stations of Culture” as a catalyst for revitalization. These small, indoor outdoor, gallery-like third spaces are designed to restore energy to Market Street by fostering joy, creativity, and community centered experiences.
